Karen Humphreys has been qualified as a chartered physiotherapist for 14 years - over 12 of those specialising in respiratory care. Karen Humphreys

She has a post-graduate certificate in Advanced Cardiorespiratory Physiotherapy and is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), the Health and Care Professions Counil (HCPC) and the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Respiratory Care (ACPRC) .

Karen specialised in respiratory physiotherapy in 2004 at the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield, before moving to work at the Oxford University Hospitals Trust in 2006. She has gained experience treating a wide variety of patients and conditions, including:

  • chronic respiratory diseases - COPD, bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis, interstitial lung disease, asthma
  • hyperventilation syndrome (also known as dysfunctional breathing or over-breathing)
  • chest infections and pneumonia
  • those who use long term oxygen therapy
  • the respiratory care of those with neuromuscular disease
  • the respiratory care of those with musculo-skeletal disorders of the chest wall
  • pre- and post-operatively
  • those on intensive care and high dependency units
  • inpatients, outpatients and home visits
